rodarte dream coat

Okay so with like everyone in the world but me going to see Star Wars last week, Rodarte's Fall 2014 collection (featuring the Star Wars - printed finale gowns) is having a total resurgence in the fashion press.  So what better time to debut my absolute favorite piece of clothing ever... my Rodarte Fall 2014 glitter coat!

glamping at el cosmico

Marfa photo dump, part two.  This got kind of delayed because of the hell that is FINALS week, but I'm done and have four weeks to just sit on my ass, and I could not be more excited.

marfa girl

Another year, another birthday trip to Marfa!  My ventures out west are seeming to become an annual tradition.  This year, Mark and I decided to forego ~luxury~ and rough it at El Cosmico, Marfa's premiere glamping destination.  Hey, if BeyoncĂ© could do it, we certainly could.

call me 'sylvia'

Anyone that knows me knows that I love vintage shit.  In college I used to frequent Goodwills and hunt for the gaudiest sequin tops and oversized flannels.  Probably the highlight of my thrifting days was when I found this oversized floral muumuu and cut it into a little Balenciaga SS08-esque slip dress.

When I read about Dolly Python, a treasure trove of odd antiques and one-of-a-kind vintage showpieces, I knew I'd love it.  I found this gem of a top - a mechanic's shirt that once belonged to a "Sylvia" - hidden in Dolly Python's amazing racks.  I knew it would be a fun piece to wear around Paris's Left Bank, home to all of the coolest artists, while we hit up Paris's best vintage shops.  They were amazing!!!  I got some iconic Chanel, the coolest Isabel Marant boots, and lots of other stuff I'll debut in some of our upcoming posts!

loubs at the louvre

The Louvre sucked.  This place was CRAZY.  The end.
I quite literally couldn't even be bothered to look at the Mona Lisa.  Do not go here.

l'empire de la mort

Mark's brother Jacob was insistent that we visit the Catacombs of Paris - the "Empire of the Dead" - during our trip. They're a sprawling ossuary beneath the streets, a huge network of tunnels lined with skulls and bones - a far cry from the "macarons and shopping" activity I had suggested for the day.

Full disclosure: my only real reference for the Catacombs before I visited was this dumb horror movie that Mark and I went to see where these tourists snuck down into the Catacombs and it turned into a literal visit to hell and yeah... thankfully that didn't happen to us.

queen of versailles

I don't know about y'all, but when I think of Paris, I think of luxury... amazing food, amazing shopping, and amazing scenery. Maybe it's the fact that I watched Marie Antoinette recently, but ~*~opulence~*~ is just kind of where my mind goes. So it's obvious that when planning this trip, I'd choose Versailles as a place that we had to visit.  I just wanted to revel in its grandeur, run through the gardens, and experience this totally over-the-top dream world.

jacquemus at the plages

I just got back from Paris!  It's been a whirlwind summer of classes, rotations, and work, work, work, all leading up to a free week before shit started up again in August.  So OF COURSE a French getaway was necessary!

Mark and I had two main goals for France: spend as much $$$ possible and shoot a lot of the newest, most interesting pieces of my wardrobe.  Sorry, y'all, but a Paris backdrop just beats the hell out of wherever I could have photographed my clothes in DFW.

With that said, here's some JACQUEMUS!!!

all rodarte everything

RODARTE Spring / Summer 2013 at Dallas Contemporary

Well grad school doesn't play... I've been like up to my ass in work this semester and probably won't slow down until the summer.  So while this blog kind of took a breather, my shopping sure as hell didn't, and I've acquired about half a dozen new Rodarte pieces (with literally NOWHERE to wear them).

I'm writing this from home on a SNOW DAY.  Everyone kind of warned me about them when I moved to Texas (since snow wasn't ever really an issue in Mississippi), but so far I'm loving it!  No work... no school... an excuse to be lazy, hang out with my cat, and make waffles for lunch?  Yeah, let's have a snow day everyday.

rodarte and rothko

RODARTE Fall/Winter 2008 Knit Shell top

I guess this was my Valentine's Day present.  I just got it out of my mailbox one day last week and Mark was like "Oh yeah, I bought that for you."  I am making my life sound entirely too glamorous, but this shit just kind of happens.

RODARTE gown

"It's Rodarte."

I will NEVER get sick of saying this.
I had decided that 2015 would be a great year to expand my fashion collection... and what better a way to start the year than by adding this Spring 2013 Ivy Trellis gown to the mix?

the last one

This is the last post in our Marfa series!  I actually just went brunette, so it's funny for me to see these pictures where my hair is still super blonde.

I'm outside at the Chinati Foundation and wearing an Alexander Wang for H&M dress and 3.1 Phillip Lim "Kadie" cut-out booties.

see mystery lights

ANTHROPOLOGIE coat, RODARTE FOR TARGET dress,
RODARTE FOR TARGET knee-highs, VINTAGE wedges

I have literally owned this tulle dress since I was a fat brunette (Mark bought me the entire collection for Christmas in 2009), but it's such an iconic piece of my wardrobe that I had to bring it along and try to work it into my Marfa looks.  Mark and I had already planned a fun late night dinner, but we both worked up an appetite while shooting.  Solution:  BIRTHDAY DAIRY QUEEN!!!
