who's this guy?

FOREVER 21 sweater, ISABEL MARANT POUR H&M waxed biker jeans, ISABEL MARANT Dicker boots

So my grandma pointed out that I looked exactly like a BOY in all of these pictures.  Seriously, I was showing her all of my Marfa pics and she asked "Who's this guy??" when I got to these.  I don't have to say much else.

food shark

No, I'm not talking about myself...  Food Shark is actually a food truck parked right in the middle of Marfa.  They serve some bomb ass Mediterranean ("Marfalafel" was a favorite) and we managed to score some lamb in the middle of the desert.

road to nowhere

I don't mean to ruin the "fantasy," but I curled my hair at a truck stop like an hour outside Marfa.  Also, I changed into this outfit IN MARK'S CAR directly across from Prada Marfa.  Naturally, like 5 people showed up immediately after I took my bra off.
So, yeah.

alexander wang x h&m

Alexander Wang x H&M has been on my radar for a long time.  Everyone knows I love a good designer collab - especially the H&M ones.  Designers basically reissue archive pieces from their main lines, giving me the chance to score direct rip offs of clothes I missed out on the first time around (sorry, def couldn't afford Margiela in college!).  I'd already started mentally cataloguing looks from past Wang collections that I hoped would show up.

KATE MOSS FOR TOPSHOP Fringed Leather Jacket
So grad school's started... my 9-hour days have now become 14-hour days and all the fun's been sucked out of my life!! This 3-day weekend has been a godsend :)

I ignored the 100 degree weather and spent the holiday weekend in my Kate Moss for Topshop Fringed Leather Jacket.  Seriously, how bad ass do I look in this?

4 'Grams

Peach Crisp at Melt Ice Creams. H&M denim coat, H&M dress, REBECCA MINKOFF bag, CATBIRD NYC rings

SO, Texas... I got my driver's license in the mail today and it's official: I'm a Texan.  And you know what?  Aside from the heat, Texas is the best.

Seriously, I've come to the not too surprising conclusion that Mark and I are city folk.  Back in Jackson, we had a weekend routine: wake up, do bagels, hit up Anthropologie.  Repeat.  Here, though, you can't spit without finding something cultural, stimulating, or fashion related to do, so between work, doctoral programs, and weekend fun, we're constantly on the move... and so far I'm having a blast!

I have the absolute best job.  I work for the most amazing people (my boss is probably one of the nicest women I have ever met), my job itself is really fun, and I actually get to wear cute clothing to work :) !  The shopping here is also ridiculously good. Like, I had an idea that I would like living in a bigger city, but DFW has certainly surpassed my expectations!

I've been trying to chronicle all the new shit I do on my Instagram, so I'll try to give some context to my favorite 'grams in this post.

So there's this ice cream place... MELT.  It's local, farm-to-cone ingredients, the menu's pretty creative, and everything's super fresh.  They make the ice cream in house every morning and they have a fairly select menu that rotates each month.  It is SO good.  Seriously... I was double fisting double-scoops.

I've had like every flavor (my favorite is the Blackberry pie, but you can't go wrong with anything you order) and the place is so damn cute.  They're already generating national buzz and believe me, it's completely merited :)

ISABEL MARANT Dicker boots

Okay, so I've already expressed my total infatuation with Neiman Marcus.  As you can see, I'm having some great success there (lol).  Good shit's happening with my closet.  And so yeah, DICKER BOOTS.  I've wanted these bbs since like idk... forever?  But I'm usually kind of capricious with my purchases and walk out of stores with whatever catches my eye rather than saving up for more major or substantial items (Louboutins withstanding).  In my mind, these boots were kind of the intangible, holy grail, perfect but supremely unattainable items that would just complete any outfit, but it seemed a lot more pragmatic to buy like 15 things from a Target designer collaboration rather than dropping it all on one pair of boots.  Welcome to fashion, I guess?!

I actually surprised myself with my color choice, as my heart was initially set on the bronze leather beauties I'd coveted for years.  But when I got there I couldn't take my eyes off these charcoal Dickers.  With the saleslady's not-so-subtle encouragement (bitch was EGGING ME ON), I decided I had to have these.  I was in and out of the store in like 15 minutes!  But yeah, I love these.  They're my children.  Solid investment.

Richard Phillips solo exhibition at Dallas Contemporary.  FREE PEOPLE top, ISABEL MARANT POUR H&M pants

Mark always tried to drag me to the Mississippi Museum of Art.  Sometimes I'd cave, but only if he begged or like bribed me with drinks or something, but I remained unimpressed.  So the second we moved, Mark seized the opportunity to take me to like 4 different art museums in the DFW area.  To my surprise, they've all been phenomenal!

My favorite so far was the Richard Phillips retrospective at Dallas Contemporary.  Amazing show... my favorite piece was either this kind of haunting portrait of Lindsay Lohan or homegirl behind me squirting milk everywhere!  But Phillips's show was gorgeous, amusing, fantastic.  Loved it.  Also, I'm really excited about the Mario Testino show coming in September!

So... I do have one complaint about Texas (albeit a minor one).  It took me a while to find a radio station that played more than like the same three "adult pop" songs.  I'm not really a OneRepublic girl.  However, while making a Taco Bueno run and bitching about the "I'm gonna marry her anyway" song that kept playing, the DJ just randomly decided to give away some Beyonce/Jay-Z tickets.  Guess who won???  Seriously, I never win anything, but I just took it as some sort of karmic repayment for having to endure adult casual for a couple of weeks.

Queen Bey didn't disappoint!  And for someone who doesn't necessarily love Jay-Z, I was bopping as hard as any other whitegirl.  My outfit was definitely giving some "XO" music video vibes, and even though I was in the nosebleeds (I took a picture with the Binocular Rentals guy), Mark and I celebrated our 6-year anniversary jamming to "99 Problems" and had the best time.  Also gave me a perfectly good excuse to be hostile during "Single Ladies."

We're already looking forward to our next adventures in the Lone Star State :)

Mary Does Dallas

ALEXANDER WANG 'Parental Advisory' shirt, ALEXANDER WANG 'Lydia' clutch, FOREVER 21 skirt, 3.1 PHILLIP LIM 'Kadie' cut-out booties

So we've settled into our new place in Fort Worth, Texas.  Serious upgrade (minus the traffic!).  OBVIOUSLY, we wasted no time hitting up our favorite places to shop in Dallas and dropping all the money I'd saved for the move :)

Freret & Napoleon

Okay so when I heard about a fellow Millsaps College alum, Tiffany Langlinais, who had recently broken into the fashion world with her unique take on clothing and accessories inspired by New Orleans (!!!) and the southern coast, you could say I was intrigued.  You could ALSO say I was in stalker mode, looking all over Instagram and Facebook to see what her line, Freret & Napoleon, was all about.

The more I creeped around, the more I knew I wanted to get my hands on something from her debut collection.  She had sweet jewel toned skirts and tops with crystal beading and fringe everywhere. Totally chill pieces with a touch of glamour and poise. Basically, statement pieces every fierce bitch worth my time of day should have in her closet.

Top Ten Collections: Fall/Winter 2014

This weekend Mark and I picked our ten favorite collections for the Fall/Winter 2014 season.  We actually have pretty similar taste, which made it a surprisingly easy task. Since it's highly unlikely I will actually own head to toe looks from more than like one of these labels, I put Mark to work illustrating me in my dream fall wardrobe!

Also, notice the roots Mark gave me in these sketches.  Thanks for the hint.

Here's our list, in no particular order:

Instagram Trio: Céline

CELINE Spring/Summer 2012 Leather Dress
So I intended to go to Dallas and interview for grad school... and I came back with this trashbag.  Which was fitting since it rained the entire trip.  In fact, my interview began with hail shattering my hotel window and ended with me driving 8 hours home in a torrential downpour to check on my boss's cat (yeah...).  It's Celine, obviously, and totally worth it!  Hopefully it's the first of many, because I'm IN, bitches!!!

CELINE leather dress

And because I was in the treat yo'self mood, I couldn't pass up this shirt I'd wanted for like years.  It's my Kanye at Coachella look.

Planning for Lana

ANNA SUI dress, MINNETONKA hat

I'm going to see Lana Del Rey in New Orleans this Friday!  Mark and I have been waiting on her U.S. tour forever and wanted a reason to celebrate our upcoming move to Dallas, TX!  Full disclosure: I really like to plan what I'm wearing to events like this in advance. It's also crucial I not look like a jackass/basic white girl (think flower crown, fanny pack, headdress, face paint, etc.), but I still wanna wear something HOT.

I narrowed it down to the three options below: One is slightly grungy/casual - I've worn it shopping a couple times and usually confuse people in it.  Another is pretty sleek but has a jacket that definitely screams "Lana Del Rey."  The last was a recent find and reminds me a lot of Kate Moss's Glastonbury attire (minus the Wellies).  It's Anna Sui, and I basically robbed the store (dumb bitches!!!) and got it for $40 - check it out on Jessica Stam!

Check out all 3 looks below!

Instagram Duo: 3.1 Phillip Lim and Austin, TX

3.1 PHILLIP LIM Colorblocked Sequin Sweater
If you look closely enough, you can see where I burnt the hell out of my chin with my curling iron.  Anyways, I love this sweater.  It reminds me of all the like fabulous disco tops I used to buy in vintage stores in New Orleans and wear around the city, only it's somewhat (?) practical.

RODARTE tee, J.CREW flannel shirt, FREE PEOPLE jeans, REBECCA MINKOFF bag, and PRADA sunglasses
Mark and I went to Austin last month! It was seriously the chillest trip, lots to do... REALLY good Mexican food and a lot of vintage shopping.  We hit up Feathers Vintage and Prototype, which is right next door, on South Congress ("SoCo" if you're compelled to sound like an asshole lol).  By George, another store in the area, had these really slouchy Givenchy bags that were so good, probably the first Givenchy item I've coveted in a long while. Mark didn't bring his camera so this is like one of the three pics I have from our entire trip!

Isabel Marant pour H&M Sequined Pants

I keep finding myself in the Isabel Marant pour H&M collection!  I wore my Isabel Marant sequined pants and Yeezus tee back before it got FREEZING COLD here in Mississippi.

Blonde Hair and Gorilla Fur

So I'm blonde now...

Yeezus Concert Tee

I've been on the hunt for a while now for the perfect pair of black pants.  I have kind of a weird build to fit (narrow hips and skinny legs), so imagine my surprise when I walk into Free People and find the perfect pair.  They were cheap too!

Of course... I found a ton of stuff I wanted in the sale room (hello Rodarte knock-off).  At first I was kind of iffy about justifying the purchase of another fur... but what the hell and YOLO and shit.

So new year, new hair, I guess.  I had been considering a major hair change since around Thanksgiving and finally decided to just go for it.  I had the entire double process done in a single session and am really, really happy at how light it turned out.

I honestly thought my hair grew really slowly but I only had about three days of pristine  platinum root.  It's been about two weeks and my regrowth is pretty ostensible, but I have another appointment with my colorist like 4 days from now :)

I think I'll keep it this color for a while.
